setec consulting engineers are fundraising for The Passage by taking on one of the UK’s toughest endurance challenges

On 20 June 2026, a team from Setec Consulting Engineers will take on the SAS Fan Dance, one of the UK’s most demanding endurance events, to raise money for The Passage, a London charity working to prevent and end street homelessness. As an engineering consultancy delivering some of the country’s most complex infrastructure programmes, we know what it means to work under pressure, but this is a different kind of test entirely.

What is the SAS Fan Dance?

The Fan Dance is the original SAS Selection test route, used to assess whether candidates have the physical and mental determination to pursue a career in UK Special Forces. The route covers 24 kilometres through the Brecon Beacons in South Wales, beginning with an immediate ascent of Pen y Fan at 886 metres, descending to the halfway point, and returning via the notorious climb known as Jacob’s Ladder. Every participant carries full kit and must complete the route within a strict cut-off time.

It is not a leisure hike. It is one of the toughest endurance challenges available to civilians in the UK.

Why we are taking part

At Setec Consulting Engineers, our work spans energy, transport, nuclear and infrastructure. But we also believe businesses have a responsibility to contribute to the communities around them.

We chose to fundraise for The Passage because their mission matters. Working in Westminster, where the concentration of people sleeping rough is among the highest in the UK, The Passage provides shelter, hot meals, health support and a genuine route towards independent living for people experiencing homelessness.

The SAS Fan Dance felt like the right challenge. Engineering demands the same qualities the route tests: preparation, resilience, and the ability to keep going when conditions get hard.
